SignAge Distributed Configuration
The SignAge system was designed to be flexible and can be installed in a variety of configurations. A distributed configuration, as shown above, is typical of larger retail chains where existing store side hardware is already in place. With this configuration the optional RTSMQ and dataXform components are utilized for publishing content and metadata changes to each store.
Pros of a Distributed Configuration
- Network slow downs or outages do not affect a stores ability to print signage
- Signs and pricing for upcoming Ads can be downloaded in advance, ensuring correct sign printing even during a network outage
- Existing store-side POS pricing data can be used for sign printing, which guarantees POS and sign prices always match
- Problems with a central server cannot take down all your stores at once
- Integrates seemlesly with in-store handheld RF devices
- Built in message queueing and data replication makes data distribution easy
- Existing in-store server hardware can be used to its full potential
- Overall wide area network utilization is lower
- SignAge self-updates, eliminating the need for traditional software rollouts for upgrades
Cons of a Distributed Configuration
- A one time store side installation of SignAge software is required
- A server must exist at each store
